Fantastic In House Legal Counsel Role for a budding Commercial Lawyer looking for a Genuine Career Growth Opportunity

Due to continued success and future growth, the Group office of this well-known Australian owned retailer has a newly created role for an experienced Commercial Lawyer to join their legal team in the group offices in South Brisbane.


The Role

In this role you will provide general legal advice to internal stakeholders across all business and operational units.  Although the role will primarily have a commercial focus, you will also be involved in managing legal work in other areas, including, but not limited to, property & leasing, franchising, corporate transactions such as sale and purchase, franchising, general IP/IT matters, dispute resolution, financing matters, and the review and negotiation of related commercial contracts, such as procurement and supplier agreements.

Working closely with the Head of Legal, you will also be involved in monitoring and compliance with industry specific and general regulatory matters, such as Corporations Law and Privacy Act, as well as keeping abreast of regulatory updates and other event-driven matters which may impact the business.


About You 

The ideal candidate will have a solid Commercial and/or Property Law background, and possess a commercial approach to the law.  In addition, you will:

  • hold a Bachelor of Laws (or equivalent) and a current unrestricted Queensland practicing certificate
  • have between 2 and 4 years Post Admission Experience
  • have gained experience in another commercial focused in house legal role and/or as a private practice lawyer in a well regarded law firm
  • sound understanding of general business practices and deep understanding of commercial law and commercial agreements
  • franchising experience highly advantageous, but not essential
  • polished spoken and written communication skills, including the ability to draft and develop legal documentation
  • the ability to offer solution based, commercial advice to the business, using spoken and written language relevant a range of audiences, including when liaising with external counsel
